“There is more good than evil in this world.”
The Person of the Month Award is given to contributors in the SDC community who pour in their dedication and passion towards our mission - to empower youth with disabilities. Cher Lin, the Director of Sales at BakerWest Real Estate is the Person of the Month for July. Every day through Cher’s hardwork in SDC and in the real-estate industry, she pursues an attitude of positivity, to prove to the world that there is more good than evil. Cher has been a part of the annual Once Upon a Shine Gala Planning Committee and continues to provide insight and assistance to put on SDC’s gala.
Lin grew up in Taiwan and eventually moved to Vancouver in 1999. Cher’s immigration story consisted of her parents wanting a better future for her. She believes that Canada is able to provide wonderful opportunities for everyone, which drew her to the country itself. In her spare time, you can find Cher in the kitchen either baking or cooking. Overall, her biggest hobby is her own career where she is able to learn about architecture and intricate interior designs. In the future, Cher hopes to professionally contribute to Canada’s landscape through the real-estate industry.
Although Cher has only recently joined SDC, she has been a valuable committee member for the Once Upon a Shine gala and has attended the previous gala held at the Westin Bayshore. Additionally, Lin hopes to visit program participants and to see them grow in character. SDC has allowed her to realize how important and necessary teamwork is in order to achieve a certain goal. Cher believes that the expanding world is not a limitation, but a challenge and can motivate her to contribute globally, especially for children with disabilities.
In the past, Cher has dealt with hardships, such as depression and PTSD, but she continues to look past it and to trek forward in the world with positivity. She believes her biggest impact has been her vulnerability and her sharing of her past stories. Many people have reached out to Cher, relating to her struggles and have also bonded over them. She hopes to be living proof that she is better than the hardships of the world.
Cher would like to thank her friends and family for their continued support and how they never gave up on her when she was in her darkest times of her life. Despite not crying for help, her peers reached out and continued to root for her. Cher can happily proclaim that she is a survivor of PTSD and other mental illnesses that had a hold of her since childhood. Cher says that “we are all passengers in life, so cherish the people in this journey, both good and bad, because the journey is life”. Thank you Cher for your powerful story and your contributions to SDC!
