“We rise by lifting others.”

This quote by Robert Ingersroll perfectly conveys Caroline Wei’s passion to work with fellow SDC members to achieve the greatest results possible. Caroline recognizes that a single person’s abilities are limited, but there is unlimited potential in team work. As the Executive Assistant for the Programs Coordinator, she has worked thoroughly and carefully to create a positive impact within the youth community. Each month we aim to recognize people who have made meaningful contributions to SDC, which is why for this month, we have chosen Caroline!

Born in the northernmost city of China, Harbin, as a Grade 12, Caroline currently attends Prince of Wales Secondary School. She enjoys playing badminton and the violin, and snowboards in her free time. Eventually, Caroline wishes to enter the medical field to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor.

After her friend introduced her to SDC in Grade 10, she began as a volunteer, and, with love and dedication, has become the Executive Assistant to the Programs Coordinator. Through working in her current position, Caroline had the opportunity to experience her hard work bearing fruits by seeing children in joy and smiling, which was enough for her to feel grateful that she had a chance to make change. To this day, she feels fond of her experience working with children outdoors, as they really enjoyed their time!

At SDC, Caroline was able to create a positive impact within the SDC community. As Chinese is her mother tongue, she worked on broadening the audience by creating communications platforms on WeChat, so that SDC can connect with monolingual people. Caroline has also contributed by working on the Master Lists of the program participants for each new semester! Every week, you’ll find Caroline volunteering in our programs and connecting with the children.

Caroline describes SDC as her second family and has felt welcomed since her first day in SDC. She can feel the connection between all members of the youth team and the program coordinators who continue to support her. SDC has impacted Caroline through allowing her to cultivate life-long skills, such as independence. She believes her experiences in SDC have taught her how much a team can impact a community. Join Caroline and her contributions by volunteering in our programs!
