Evelyn Chang started working with Social Diversity for Children Foundation (SDC) earlier this year. Now, just over half a year later, she is SDC’s fundraising committee co-chair and a huge driving force behind SDC’s rapid expansion. Evelyn has exemplified the ideals and mission of SDC throughout her entire work period. Seeing that the Person of the Month award is meant to recognize an individual who has made a meaningful and positive impact on SDC, we are so proud to announce that Evelyn Chang is the Person of the Month for September.

Evelyn came to Canada 17 years ago. After pursuing a Master of Business Administration at the University of British Columbia, she is working as the Operations Director for Quantum Academy and enjoys spending time with her family and her four year old son.

Earlier this year, Evelyn joined the SDC team as a board member, hoping to use her strengths to grow the organization. After volunteering at Building Bridges with Music (BBM) and Education through Creativity (ETC) programs. Upon seeing how the organization positively impacts the lives of children with disabilities through their many programs , she had an “eye-opening experience” which further fueled her passion for the cause.

Over the past few months, Evelyn has continued to work as a key motivating force behind multiple projects, including the COVID-19 Relief Fund, 2021 Once Upon a Shine Gala, the 2020 Online Auction, and many more. Currently, she is most excited about the upcoming SDC Once Upon a Shine Gala in 2021, where her roles include negotiating with venues, generating awareness for the cause, and helping to emphasize the Youth Team’s role in the planning process. In doing so, she hopes to teach the next generations to carry on an attitude to serve and empower others.

When reflecting on the impact SDC has had on her, Evelyn describes her increased awareness of action that may be taken to better support children with disabilities, stating “there will always be individuals who need help, if we work together, we can reach many more people and make even more change.” Evelyn feels that SDC’s culture and environment exemplify these values, and by collaborating with her fellow SDC members, she is regularly inspired and motivated by their passion and dedication to the organization.

Evelyn aspires to use her strengths to positively impact people around the world. “Live a meaningful life,” she says, “you are an artist and you can make the world more beautiful.”
